As we come to the end of 2025, I have taken some time to reflect on just how far PAWS-PATAS has come over the past twelve months.
This year has brought some truly significant milestones. We are incredibly proud that the shelter is now officially in our name, all buildings are fully legal, and we have signed the contract to purchase the adjacent plot of land. This marks a major step forward and brings us closer to realising our long-held dream of creating a modern, purpose-built facility that will allow us to care for animals to the highest possible standards.
Alongside these achievements, the year has also brought some very difficult challenges. The outbreak of parvovirus and the heartbreaking loss of six puppies was devastating, and the subsequent outbreak of giardia in the cattery forced us to pause homing for a period of time. These experiences have highlighted, once again, the urgent need for a purpose built quarantine unit for dogs and a new cattery with a dedicated quarantine block. Until these are in place, we know we will continue to face challenges of this nature.
Despite these setbacks, I am confident that PAWS-PATAS is entering a new chapter as a stronger, more resilient, and professionally run Association. None of what we have achieved — or will achieve — would be possible without the unwavering commitment of our members, volunteers, and supporters.
On behalf of the organisation, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to each and every one of you for being part of this journey. Your time, compassion, generosity, and belief in our mission make everything we do possible.
Onward and upward!
With heartfelt thanks
